...well maybe lime green not forest green.
I was in the middle of an instant messenger conversation with a classmate this week when the phone rang. It was an important call that I had to take. I found myself awkwardly holding two conversations at once while trying not to let either party know that I was slightly distracted. Yes, I could have told our classmate to hold on but, I wanted to ride the techno-multitasking bike without training wheels. Aside from the increased typos in my MSN window and a couple, "I'm sorry would you repeat that again." to the person on the phone, I'd give myself a "C" on that one. Has anyone else been caught up in this type of multi-tasking that comes so easily for our "digital natives"? I read that they write term papers and all at the same time. What was your experience like?
P.S. I picked the right color for my template, didn't I?

LOL....I love your post! I haven't had the same experience yet (since I'm still in the dark ages using dial-up internet)but I have had a fun time running up and down the hall trying to tend to my son in the living room while trying to IM with classmates in the computer room! Who knows, maybe through this class I'll end up losing a couple of pounds! :)
Hey Heather,
That's hilarious! Yes there has to be some physical benefit to all of this. ;O)
Hi Lori...this is what keeps us young, fun, and interesting! I love your story!! Haven't tried the phone and IM yet...do you have a headset for the phone or was your neck hurting afterwards.?
Kristy
Hey Kristy,
Let me put it this way: Call the cops because I had a crook. ;o)
But that doesn't mean their term paper is any good! :)
My 14 year old always has 4-6 conversations going at a time which is fine because so too do all of his friends. But even he doesn't try to do homework and chat at the same time.
I haven't been home all week to chat with anyone on Messenger- I can imagine it is hard to chat when, as working/schooling/parenting/volunteering/ etc. adults, we finally carve out the time to get on the computer and do homework.
Lori--Great post! I was involved with a number of simultaneous chats this week including picture-sharing and more. It certainly was an interesting experience--I just wish the PC was able to keep as good a pace as I did--I'm having hardware trouble that should soon be remedied. I bet we will soon master the multitasking communication hurdle. Maybe I need a few more Gigs of RAM in this PC--or just a new PC! I already banked on the latter. Talk to you soon!
Hi Christine,
Yes you're right, the quality of work is probably being compromised. Its good to know your son doesn't complete his homework while simultaneously chatting in some format or the other. I felt like I was juggling knives and about to get stabbled at any moment.
Hi Shane,
Thanks for the encouragement. I agree that with more experience. we will all become more comfortable with this. Sorry to hear that your PC is running slowly. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get your new one soon.
